When the Sept. 11 tragedy occurred, I was especially horrified by the devastation. I used to work near the World Trade Center, and if I had still been there, I might have been buried under the rubble.
I realized that if it weren't for the rescue workers, firemen, police, and especially ordinary people like you and me who volunteered their precious time, there would have been no possible hope for those who were still alive.
It moved me to see people like ourselves, who worked night and day, who would not rest, and who would not give up.
Their courage, heroism, and perseverence inspired me to write "American Heroes" in their honor. My hope is that this music will inspire all of us to continue working together to build a better world for the future.
